Genshin Impact Studio HoYoVerse Teases New Fantasy MMO Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and AI
HoYoVerse, the company known for the hugely popular Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, has given us a first look at their exciting new project: a fantasy MMO built using Unreal Engine 5. And yes, it will use AI technology.
The news comes from a post on Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media platform, by miHoYo's hiring department. ResetEra users spotted the post, which details some key features of the upcoming game. These include MMO gameplay, PvP, an open world to explore, an "Artificial Intelligence Stimulated Eco System," All-Terrain Battle AI, and "Intellectual NPCs."
Keep in mind that these terms are translated, so the exact meanings might be slightly different. However, the post does offer a glimpse into what HoYoVerse is working on. One thing that stands out is the game's visuals. It doesn't have the typical anime style we're used to seeing from miHoYo. Instead, it has the distinct look of a game made with Unreal Engine 5.
The use of AI is interesting, as HoYoVerse has used it before in Zenless Zone Zero to help speed up the development process. The company has also made its stance clear on AI art and voice work, stating they have AI voice protections in their contracts. This was after a contract dispute that led to SAGAFTRA members being recast.
This new project seems to show that HoYoVerse will continue to use AI in game development. We don't know exactly how it will be used, the game's title, its release date, or what the gameplay will be like. For now, it's a mystery.
HoYoVerse is also working on other games, including a monster-collection game called Honkai: Nexus Anima. We'll have to be patient and wait for more details about this new MMO.
