Mass Effect Fans Rejoice: New Game Still in Development Amidst EA Acquisition Rumors
Bioware has reassured fans that the next Mass Effect game is still happening. To celebrate N7 day, Bioware posted a blog confirming their commitment to expanding the Mass Effect universe.
Executive producer Mike Gamble thanked fans for their support and patience, stating the team is fully focused on the new Mass Effect.
"We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out," Gamble wrote. "We're excited by what we're building, and we promise you: when we're ready, it'll be a lot of fun to show."
The blog post didn't include new screenshots, trailers, or gameplay footage. However, it serves as a sign of life for the popular franchise, especially with the potential EA buyout by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and private equity firms.
Gamble also teased the upcoming Mass Effect TV show in partnership with Amazon, but provided no new details.
He did share that "The writers room is going strong, and we've got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe's timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won't be a retread of Commander Shepard's story - because after all ... that's YOUR story, isn't it?"
Gamble finished by mentioning Mass Effect crossover cosmetics coming to Apex Legends and Skate and insisted there was no hidden message in the blog.
The future of Mass Effect and Bioware has been uncertain. Some worry Bioware isn't making the kinds of games it used to. But many still love Mass Effect and Bioware, hoping the new game will be a success.
