Sony is rolling out a big update for the PS Portal that will let users stream games through PlayStation Plus Premium without needing a PS5 console.
This update, which has been in beta for about a year, means you can play games like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4 on the PS Portal without a PS5.
Since its launch in 2023, the PS Portal has been mainly used for streaming games from your PS5 to a smaller screen. Sony is now making good on its promise to let you play PS5 games without a console.
To set it up, sign into your PS Portal with your PS Plus Premium account, go to the settings, and turn on Game Streaming (still labeled as Beta). Once it's on, you can access your home PS5 or a separate streaming tab. This will work even if you don't have a PS5 connected.
These streamed games will work like installed games. With this update, in-game purchases are supported, you can use 3D Audio, and you can play online.
You can now play games like Tekken 3 on the PS Portal without installing them on your PS5. This update makes the PS Portal more appealing, especially for those who travel or want to play in different rooms.
A full list of compatible games via the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog is available. The update goes live on November 5th at 6pm PT / November 6th at 2am GMT.
