Vein Game Devs Reveal Next Steps After Huge Launch for First-Person Zombie Survival
If you've dreamed of playing a first-person version of Project Zomboid, then Vein is the game for you. This indie survival title from Ramjet Studios takes inspiration from The Indie Stone's hit, Project Zomboid, bringing a focus on realism and tough challenges. One wrong move can quickly lead to a swarm of zombies overwhelming you. Though still early, the two-person team at Ramjet has seen a fantastic start, with over 11,000 players and an impressive 92% positive rating on Steam reviews.
Following this much bigger than expected launch, the Vein team is incredibly busy. They've just released a new weekly update detailing what's coming next. A top priority is improving how zombies appear and behave to keep the tension high. Soon, zombies won't suddenly pop up behind you, and they won't spawn in houses you've recently cleared. Ramjet explained, "Zombies are at the core of Vein, so we have to be careful. Making them too hard would make the game unplayable, but making them too easy (which we think they are now) takes away the threat."
The next big update will also bring clearer XP boosts for cooked food, a new setting to change date formats (day-first or month-first), and many more seed types like artichokes, broccoli, and watermelon. Players have also frequently asked for better animals and hunting, which the developers are considering for future updates.
Ramjet is also working on improving double doors. Currently, these doors act independently, meaning you have to open and lock each side separately. The team is developing a way for double doors to function as one unit, making them easier to manage.
Another key feature nearing completion is PC controller support. "Many players prefer gamepads over keyboard and mouse, so this is important for us," Ramjet stated. The game is almost ready for gamepad use in the next update, with just a few bugs left to fix.
"The success of early access means we have a lot to think about when choosing what features to focus on," Ramjet concluded. "It's a transition time as we sort out finances and grow our team. Beyond game development, we're also dealing with a lot of business, legal, and financial tasks." They hinted at more unannounced features for the upcoming update and plan to release at least one more hotfix soon to squash bugs.
