The decision to delay the release of Paralives was communicated in a lengthy statement from developer Alex Massé, who emphasized that the choice was made with the best interest of the game and the community in mind. While earlier tests with close contacts had instilled confidence in a December release, widening the playtest base revealed crucial areas needing improvement.
Specifically, the major issues cited were:
Impactful Bugs within the core Live Mode (life simulation).
A "lack of activities" available within the town environment, which significantly dampened player enjoyment.
Massé envisions Paralives as a "fresh and indie take on the doll-house life simulation genre," describing the project as being "three games in one": an advanced build mode, a greatly customizable character creator, and a complex life simulation mode. It is this final, complex simulation element that requires the additional polish time.
"We are so proud of what we have built, but now, we just need a bit more time to polish the simulation part of the game," said Massé. "This would ensure Paralives offers a great first experience when it launches, making players come back for every exciting free update and expansion that we will put out afterwards."
The developer previously gained acclaim for committing to a consumer-friendly model, stating last year that Paralives would not feature paid DLC, opting instead for free expansions. As a small team without external shareholders, they believe initial game sales will be sufficient to support long-term development and continuous free updates.
In the wake of this delay, the life simulation genre continues to see activity: Krafton recently released inZOI, while the ambitious Life by You from Paradox was shut down. Meanwhile, EA continues its work on the next iteration of The Sims concept.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to a 45-minute live stream on November 25 showcasing the game's current state. The game's website also features a detailed roadmap outlining specific improvements and fixes leading up to the new 2026 launch date.
