Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says GTA 5 and GTA Online are still going strong 12 years after release. In fact, GTA 5 has sold more copies than there are people in Brazil.
Speaking with Chris Dring at The Game Business, Zelnick discussed the continued success of the open-world crime game, even though GTA 6 was delayed again, this time to November 2026.
Zelnick stated: "We continue to supply content to GTA Online, and in fact, we've had terrific results there. And GTA+ continues to grow its membership. In fact, it's had 20 percent growth year-over-year. And GTA 5 has sold in more than 220 million units."
To put that number in perspective, Brazil's population is about 213 million, according to Worldometer. Brazil is the 7th most populous country in the world. With those numbers, Take-Two is doing just fine.
Even so, the GTA 6 delay did hurt Take-Two. The company's stock price dropped after the new release date was announced. Also, there were protests outside Rockstar Games and Take-Two's UK offices because some staff members were fired after trying to unionize. Rockstar Games said these employees were sharing confidential information.
