New Horizon MMO "Steel Frontiers" is coming to mobile and PC, skipping PS5. Developer Guerrilla confirms more Horizon games are in the works.
PlayStation's popular Horizon series is getting a new game, but it won't be on PS5. Last night, Guerrilla, the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, officially announced a new MMORPG called Horizon Steel Frontiers. This game is being made by NCSoft, with Guerrilla's support, and will launch on mobile phones and PC.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is described as a "fierce survival adventure." Players will become machine hunters in an area known as Deathlands, battling in "large-scale raids" with an "advanced combat system."
A trailer for Steel Frontiers was also released, and many agree it looks good. However, a lot of fans are disappointed that a game from such a well-known PlayStation series won't be available on PlayStation consoles. Comments on social media show this frustration, with players saying things like, "It's a huge miss that this is skipping consoles," and "Guys we want this on PlayStation too."
Despite the console disappointment, Guerrilla made a follow-up announcement. They expressed excitement for Steel Frontiers and hinted that they are "still busily working on more ways for you to do just that" – meaning more Horizon experiences. This teaser confirms that other Horizon projects are underway.
Guerrilla has already confirmed that another main Horizon game starring Aloy is planned. Also, a film based on the Horizon games is currently being developed for the big screen.
