World of Warcraft players hoping for a massive, multi-buff experience boost for their secondary characters will have to wait. The popular Winds of Mysterious Fortune event, known for its significant XP and reputation gains, has been quietly removed from the latest development roadmap for Patch 11.2.7.

Leveling alternate characters (alts) in World of Warcraft is currently faster than ever, thanks to methods like the temporary Legion Remix and occasional large-scale events. Earlier this year, players enjoyed two such events: Turbulent Timeways and Winds of Mysterious Fortune. Blizzard’s original roadmap for Patch 11.2.7 included the return of both, but the latest iteration of the graphic shows that the Winds event has vanished.

The Winds of Mysterious Fortune event, which first ran in July, quickly became a community favorite due to the sheer amount of benefits it offered:

  • XP Boost: A flat 20% experience gain for characters above level ten.

  • Reputation Buffs: Major boosts to both Dragonflight and The War Within expansion factions.

  • Timed Goodies: Various temporary potions that improved everything from movement speed and health to adding powerful damage affixes to attacks.

The event was considered the optimal time for players to turbo-level alts (especially when stacked with Turbulent Timeways buffs) and cash in stockpiled Market Researches and other faction consumables for maximum reputation gain.

 

Unexplained Omission

 

Over the weekend, Blizzard shared an updated roadmap for the upcoming Patch 11.2.7, which introduces new features like housing for Midnight pre-orders and a revamped experience for new and returning players. However, a comparison with the initial roadmap clearly shows the event's removal.

Blizzard has yet to disclose the reason for the omission, leaving the community to speculate:

  • Internal Conflict: The event may have been removed to avoid excessive stacking with the ongoing Legion Remix event, despite the fact that Winds could simply be disabled on Remix realms.

  • Technical Issue: A major, time-consuming bug may have been discovered, making it impossible to fix before the planned release window.

  • Scheduling Error: The event may have been mistakenly included in the original graphic and was never intended to run in the current patch cycle.

Regardless of the cause, players who were preparing for a large alt-leveling spree or planning to cap out faction reputation will need to postpone those plans. The fact that the Winds event was slated for a rerun indicates that its return is likely at some point in the future.
